d-WEB: Distorting the archetypical roof (Extension course for project construction)

The d-WEB prototype, conceived and constructed in the Contemporary Architecture course, intertwines threads to form a dynamic structure aimed at fostering connections between students and campus users. Designed to stimulate sensations and reflections often overlooked in daily routines, it serves as an integrated and interactive element within the campus environment.

 

Despite a limited budget and tight schedule, the prototype was built in just 3.5 days with the assistance of two carpenters from the school's wood shop. Employing digital design techniques, the structure evolved from a traditional double-sloped house archetype to a distorted form resembling a web, with plastic tubes replacing conventional roofing materials commonly found in the region.

 

Constructed using pine timber and naval plywood planks, the prototype features cross-trusses and a base frame coated in black paint, with symbolic words representing d-WEB imprinted on the base.
