V International Urban Design Workshop
Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE) and Architectural Association London
Role: participant and selected final presenter
This ten-day intensive urban design workshop, a collaboration between the Housing & Urbanism Programme (H&U) at the Architectural Association Graduate School, London, and the Department of Architecture and Urbanism of the Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE), took place in Recife, Brazil, in June 2015.
Focused on the surroundings of the Olho D’água Lagoon in Jabotão dos Guararapes, the workshop addressed the government's plan to build a road around it and the challenges of the "Minha Casa, Minha Vida" (My House, My Life) national housing program in this area.
Participants, including graduate students and tutors from both schools, formed four teams tasked with developing spatial approaches to integrate housing and urban development. Their goal was to combine affordable solutions with business, educational, and market housing initiatives at the site’s Southern end.
