Building Design / Location: Convent of São Francisco in Olinda, PE, Brazil
Collaborating architects: Bruno Tinoco, Beatriz Bueno. Intern: Hugo Bressani
Award: 1st prize “Contemporary Interventions in Protected Built Environments” 2024 competition by Brazil’s Architecture and Urban Planning Council (CAU/MG, CAU/PE, CAU/RJ)

Situated in a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the proposal introduces new exhibition, educational, and leisure spaces at Brazil’s oldest Franciscan convent (1585), while preserving its cultural landscape. It aligns with sustainable development and conservation principles and aims to promote transdisciplinary learning on transcultural and spiritual experiences. Through architecture and heritage, it challenges exclusion and fosters respect for diversity by bringing new uses in the convent’s beautiful backyard with rich vegetation and historical ruins.

More about the awards can be found in the webpages of Brazil’s Architecture and Urban Planning Council, Minas Gerais and Rio de Janeiro chapters.
